AAC: Another Way to Speak Up and Be Heard
AAC isn’t a backup plan — it’s a bridge to connection and confidence.

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) includes picture boards, signs, apps, and devices. It gives children a way to express themselves now, without waiting for “perfect speech.” Research shows AAC often supports speech development by reducing frustration. Think of it as another pathway — like using glasses to see better — helping children communicate and thrive.
We’ve recently had some wonderful feedback from a family who introduced AAC alongside communication partner training and coaching. Their child is now communicating for more reasons, with more people, and is noticeably less frustrated throughout the day. By learning how to model language, offer choices, and respond consistently, the family has helped their child feel understood and confident. These changes show just how powerful AAC can be when it’s used thoughtfully and supported by the adults around a child.
AAC doesn’t replace speech — it complements it, giving children a reliable way to express their thoughts, emotions, and needs. With the right tools, guidance, and coaching, children can participate more fully in family life, school, and social activities. Seeing the difference it makes for families like this one reminds us why AAC is so important: it gives children a voice today, and opens doors for their communication
