Neuro-Affirming Practice

We support you in a way that is safe and affirming

We don’t try to “fix” children. We help them thrive, exactly as they are.

What Does “Neuro-Affirming” Mean?

Neuro-affirming practice means recognising, respecting, and embracing the many different ways that neurodivergent individuals experience and interact with the world.

Instead of trying to make a child fit into neurotypical expectations, neuro-affirming therapy focuses on:

  • Valuing each child’s unique language style

  • Prioritising strengths and interests

  • Honouring natural ways of thinking, feeling, and connecting

  • Empowering children and families to feel accepted, confident, and supported

  • Our practice honours the diversity of lived experiences, recognising the impact of trauma and intersectionality, while affirming neurodivergent ways of being and supporting authentic communication.

At Serennu Therapies, we work collaboratively with families to create individualised strategies that enhance communication, without masking or changing who a child truly is.

What is Neurodivergence?

Neurodivergence refers to natural variations in how people’s brains work.

These differences influence how someone processes information, learns, communicates, and experiences the world.

Examples of neurodivergence include:

  • Autism

  • ADHD

  • Dyslexia

  • Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

  • Cerebral palsy

  • Down's syndrome

Our Approach

At Serennu Therapies, our neuro-affirming approach is grounded in:

Child-led sessions that follow their interests and pace

Trauma-informed care that creates safe, responsive spaces

Collaboration with families and educators to ensure consistent support across settings

We also work closely with parents to equip you with tools, insight, and strategies that help you support your child in ways that feel respectful and empowering.

Supporting You Wherever You’re At

Whether your child has had a recent diagnosis, you're waiting for an assessment, or you're just starting to explore what neurodivergence means, we’re here for you.

You don’t need a formal diagnosis to get support.

We can help you understand:

  • Your child’s unique communication style

  • How to reduce overwhelm and support regulation

  • Practical strategies to support connection and growth

If you’re feeling unsure of what your child needs right now, or how to best support them, a neuro-affirming approach can offer clarity and compassion.
