What is a Sensory Integration Practitioner?
Ayres Sensory Integration is a structured, theory-driven framework for understanding how the nervous system takes in and organises sensory information, and how that affects a child's participation in everyday life. It is distinct from generic "sensory diets", movement breaks or fidget tools, which are often applied without assessment.
Ayres Sensory Integration has a developing research base. Some studies show benefit for specific, individualised goals; others are less clear, and the field is actively debated. We use it because it adds something useful to how we understand a child, not because it is a settled science, and we will always be honest with you about what it can and cannot do.

Rebecca and Sara are currently completing their postgraduate training in Ayres Sensory Integration through Sensory Integration Education, in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University.
We expect to qualify in January 2027 and to open bookings for specialist assessment and intervention shortly afterwards.
We will not offer this service until we are qualified to deliver it to the standard your child deserves.
What sensory integration within SLT will look like:
Assessment, not assumption
Structured clinical observations alongside standardised tools appropriate to our scope of practice, interpreted in the context of your child's communication profile.
Individualised
We do not prescribe the same sensory strategy to every child. We assess, analyse, and identify what your child's nervous system actually needs with parents and carers to ensure consistent support at home and in daily routines
Speech and language through the whole nervous system
Motor speech, regulation, attention and communication are all connected to sensory-motor foundations — and that is where we work
Working alongside occupational therapy Sensory integration is a shared area of practice. Where a child has an occupational therapist, we will work alongside them rather than duplicate their role, and we will say clearly when a referral to OT is what a child needs.
